Second Best Wood Dining Table — Walnut
Simple works.
Broad solid walnut legs, a beveled edge, and a one-inch top that reads as a single clean line across the room. No trickery, no adornment. The unpretentious design steps back so that you, your meals and your company always take first place.
There is a word in Japanese design for exactly this restraint: kanso (簡素) — beauty achieved by removing, not by adding. A kanso object earns its place by having nothing left to take away. The Second Best is a table built on that principle. Four legs, one plane, one bevel. Everything else was left out on purpose.
How it is made — honestly
The top is walnut veneer over an engineered core. The legs are solid walnut. This is a deliberate combination, not a compromise: a solid walnut top of this width moves with humidity and will cup or split over the years, while a veneered panel stays flat for decades. The parts that you touch, knock and live against — the legs — are solid timber. The beveled edge is cut so the top reads thin from a seated position while keeping real structure underneath.

Before you order — chair clearance
The apron sits at 26". Any dining chair with armrests higher than 26" will not slide under this table. Armless chairs — the Blu Dot Offline Chair, the Buddy Chair — tuck in without issue. The Port Chair, with arms at 28", does not. Measure the top of your armrests from the floor before committing.
At 33" wide, the table is narrower than a standard 36"–40" dining table. In a smaller room this is the point: it leaves circulation space on both sides. For serving family-style with large platters down the centre, the 95" length gives you the room the width does not.
Living with it
Clean with a slightly damp, soft cloth. For dirt and fingerprints, use a quality cleaner formulated for wood furniture, then wipe completely dry with a soft cloth, following the direction of the grain. Walnut darkens and warms with light over the first years — this is the wood settling in, not wearing out.
