What you choose to display gets air around it. What you would rather not display disappears entirely behind the doors. The shelf does not ask you to curate your whole life — only the top two-thirds of it.

How it is made — honestly

The frame and shelves are walnut veneer over an engineered wood core, not solid walnut. At 76 inches tall and 35 inches wide, that is the correct construction: a solid walnut panel of these dimensions would cost several times as much and would move, cup and eventually split with seasonal humidity. The veneer stays flat and keeps the grain running cleanly across the full width of each shelf and door — which is what gives the piece its quiet, uninterrupted face.

The enclosed storage runs on soft-closing hardware, so the doors pull themselves shut silently rather than clapping. Inside there is one adjustable shelf, so the cabinet can hold two low rows or one tall one.

Before you order — shelf height

The open shelves give 13 inches of clearance. Standard hardcovers, paperbacks, monographs and most design books fit comfortably. Oversized art books and large-format coffee-table volumes — anything over 13 inches tall — will not stand upright on the open shelves. They can lie flat, or go in the cabinet below, which gives 29 inches of interior height. Measure your tallest books before you commit.

At 13 inches deep, this is a genuinely shallow bookcase. In a narrow hallway, a small apartment or against a wall you still need to walk past, that depth is the whole reason to choose it.

Living with it

An anti-tip hardware kit is included, and at 76 inches tall it should be used — anchor it to the wall on installation, particularly in a home with children or pets.

Regularly dust with a soft cloth and clean with a damp cloth as needed, drying immediately afterward. Avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals.
