Murmur Storage Cabinet — Walnut
Japanese rooms are small, and the response to that has never been to own less — it has been to build upward and keep the floor clear. Floor area is the scarce thing. Height is free.
This cabinet is the whole Murmur language stood on end. Fifty-five inches tall on a footprint of thirty by nineteen — under four square feet of floor — holding roughly what a six-foot dresser holds, in a corner where a dresser would never fit. In an apartment that trade is the entire argument.
Standing up also changes what the fluting does. On the low pieces in this family the vertical ribs run against the horizontal mass and create tension. Here they run with it, and the cabinet reads as a fluted column — closer to architecture than to casework. Four doors, two above and two below, carry one uninterrupted rhythm from the top rail to the base, and in walnut each groove holds its own line of shadow, so the whole front is modelled rather than flat. The brass pulls are small and sunk into the grooves, sited beside the central seam so nothing breaks the run.
Behind the doors everything is hidden, which is the point. A Japanese interior keeps its storage out of sight and leaves the room empty; the discipline is not in owning less but in showing less. Two compartments, each with an adjustable shelf, take whatever a room needs to stop looking at — linens, files, glassware, the overflow that has no proper home.
The case is plywood wrapped in walnut veneer, which is the right call for a tall carcass that must stay true, and the legs are solid wood with adjustable glides, lifting the volume clear of the floor so it does not read as a block. The back is finished, so the cabinet is not confined to a wall.
An anti-tip kit is included, and at fifty-five inches it should be used. Assembly is minimal — attach the base to the frame. Made in the USA.

Care
Clean with a slightly damp, soft cloth and dry immediately, working along the grain. The flutes collect dust — a dry brush or a vacuum dust attachment once a month is far easier than a cloth. Use a quality wood furniture cleaner for fingerprints, and keep the cabinet out of prolonged direct sunlight, which lifts walnut's colour and flattens the depth. Leave the brass alone; it is meant to darken.
