Murmur 6 Drawer Dresser — White Oak
Walk through the old merchant quarters of Kyoto and the first thing you notice is the kōshi — the timber lattice screens across the façades, narrow vertical slats set close together. They are not decoration. They filter the light, give privacy from the street without shutting it out, and throw a slow rhythm of light and shadow along the whole front of the house.
The Murmur dresser speaks that language. Sixty-two inches of fluted wood runs across all six drawer faces in one continuous vertical rhythm, and the light does the rest — the grooves catch it along one edge and hold shadow in the other, so the piece changes through the day instead of sitting flat on the wall. From across the room you read texture before you read furniture.
The detail that makes it work is the one you almost miss. The pulls are small sandcast brass, and they sit inside the grooves rather than on top of them, so nothing interrupts the line. Brass was chosen for the same reason it is used on Japanese tansu hardware: it dulls and deepens with handling instead of wearing out, and after a few years it will be the warmest thing on the piece.
Underneath, the construction is honest. The case is plywood wrapped in white oak veneer — the right choice for a 62-inch span that must stay dead flat for decades. But the six drawers themselves are solid wood, and the legs are solid American timber, gently convex, lifting the whole volume nine inches off the floor. That lift matters more than it sounds: a heavy chest sitting flush to the ground fills a room, while one raised on visible legs lets the floor run underneath and keeps the space breathing.
The drawers are soft-close, drawing themselves shut over the last inch. The back is finished, so the dresser can stand against a wall or float in the room without showing a raw panel. And it carries full anti-tip certification to ASTM F2057-23 with the anchoring kit in the box — the standard written specifically to stop dressers tipping onto children. If that matters in your house, it should be the first thing you check on any chest this size.
Assembly is minimal: attach the base to the frame and level it on the adjustable glides. Made in the USA.

Care
Clean with a slightly damp, soft cloth and dry immediately, working along the direction of the grain — the flutes hold dust, so a dry brush or a vacuum dust attachment once a month is easier than chasing it with a cloth. Use a quality wood furniture cleaner for fingerprints. Leave the brass alone; do not polish it. It is meant to darken.
