Good Times Coffee Table — Walnut
Adorably stout and simple, Good Times flexes a capsule-shaped, thick wood top. Ready to shoulder a mighty load and charm you with its good nature.
No corners, no edges to catch a hip or a shin, no sharp geometry at all — just a long rounded capsule sitting on four thick cylindrical legs. It is a heavy form that somehow reads as soft, which is the hardest thing to get right in a low table.
The finish is the part worth understanding
The walnut is finished with Rubio® Monocoat — a solvent-free, 0% VOC hardwax oil. This is not a lacquer or a polyurethane film sitting on top of the wood; it is an oil that bonds into the wood fibre itself.
Japanese lacquerware has a version of this called fuki-urushi (拭き漆), "wiped lacquer": the finish is rubbed in and wiped back, coat after coat, until the wood is protected from within rather than sealed under a shell. The practical consequence is the same in both traditions. A film finish, once scratched, has to be stripped and refinished as a whole surface. An oil finish can be repaired in place — a light sand on the mark, a wipe of oil, and the repair disappears into the grain. A table finished this way is meant to be lived on rather than protected from.
It also means no off-gassing. If you are furnishing a small apartment, a nursery-adjacent room, or you simply do not want a new-furniture smell in your living room for three weeks, 0% VOC is not marketing language — it is the reason to choose this table over a cheaper one.
How it is made — honestly
-
Top: walnut veneer over an engineered wood core. At 60 inches long and this thick, a solid walnut slab would cost several times more and would cup and split over the years. The engineered core holds the capsule dead flat.
-
Legs: solid hardwood, turned as plain cylinders.
-
Adjustable glides in each leg, so it sits level on an uneven floor and does not scratch it.

Before you order — the height
Fourteen inches is a low table. The rule of thumb is that a coffee table should sit within about two inches of your sofa's seat height. Most modern sofas seat at 17 to 19 inches, which puts Good Times slightly below — visually excellent, since the low horizon is what makes a living room feel open, but a genuine reach if you eat dinner off it every night. If your sofa is a low, deep lounge model, it is perfect. If it is a firm, upright sofa at 19 inches, expect to lean.
At 30 inches wide, this is a generous table rather than a narrow one — it will hold a tray, books and a laptop side by side without stacking. Leave 16 to 18 inches between the table and the sofa so people can pass in front.
Living with it
Wipe with a slightly damp soft cloth and dry immediately, following the grain. Use a quality wood cleaner for fingerprints. Avoid abrasives and silicone polishes — they interfere with an oil finish. Coasters are still worth using, but a ring mark on an oil-finished top is a repair, not a ruin.
Some assembly required — the legs attach to the top with the provided hardware. Guaranteed 5-year warranty.
