Blu Dot Go Forth Bench - White Oak

Go Forth Bench — White Oak

Every Japanese home begins the same way: you stop at the door, and you take off your shoes.

The genkan exists because that pause matters — it is the seam between the street and the home, and it deserves a place to sit. The Go Forth Bench is built for exactly that moment. Eighteen inches high, the right height to sit and unlace without stooping. Forty-eight inches wide, enough for two people to get ready at once without negotiating.

What makes it work is what you don't see at first. A soft-close drawer hides in the front rail for keys, cards and the things that should never live on a countertop. An open compartment at one end swallows a bag or a folded umbrella. The shelf below runs the full length — shoes go there, out of the walkway, which is the whole point of a genkan in the first place.

The white oak is a veneer over an engineered core, and that is deliberate rather than a compromise: a 48-inch span in solid timber moves with the seasons, while this stays flat and true through a decade of humid summers and dry winters. The grain is real oak, pale and open, and it warms a hallway that most homes leave cold.

The form is restrained to the point of being quiet — one long horizontal line, no legs to speak of, no handles, no ornament. It reads as architecture rather than furniture, which is precisely how a genkan piece should behave: present when you need it, invisible the rest of the time.

Heavy, too. At 99 lbs it does not shift when you sit down hard, and it arrives fully assembled — carried in, set down, levelled on its adjustable feet, done.

Care

Wipe with a slightly damp soft cloth, following the direction of the grain, then dry thoroughly. Use a quality wood cleaner as needed. Keep out of direct, prolonged sunlight to hold the pale oak tone.
