A Walk in the Park Dining Table — Walnut
Japanese woodworkers have a word for what happens at the edge of a board: mentori, the chamfer. A sharp square arris is considered unfinished — hard on the hand, hard on the eye, and the first thing to chip. So the edge is cut back at an angle, and the surface is allowed to arrive at its boundary instead of stopping dead.
It is a small discipline that decides how a large object feels, and it is the reason this table works. The top is two full inches thick — genuinely heavy timber, not a slim panel pretending. Left square, that much mass would sit in a room like a slab. Bevelled, the edge catches a line of light along its whole length and throws a shadow beneath it, and from a seated position the top reads considerably thinner than it is. The weight is still there when you put your elbows on it. It has simply been talked out of dominating the room.
The legs make no such apology. They are wide, flat and splayed outward, planted rather than propped, and set well inboard of the ends so the table appears to hover clear of the floor at its corners. Blu Dot describe it as balancing mass with proportion, which is fair — the whole design is a negotiation between something that is unmistakably substantial and something that does not crowd you.
In walnut the top becomes the surface you actually look at for an hour every evening: long, dark, moving figure running the length of the table, deeper at the centre of the boards and lighter toward the edges. The construction is a solid wood core surfaced in walnut veneer — the correct choice at this span, because a genuinely solid top six or seven feet long will cup and move with every change of season, while this stays flat and true. What your hands touch is walnut.
Practical facts, because at this size they decide everything. The 72" seats six comfortably and eight at a push; the 90" seats eight comfortably and ten at a push. Standard 30" height. There is 42" between the legs and 28" of clearance to the floor, so measure any armchairs you intend to pull up to it — arms taller than 28" will not go under. It arrives by freight, weighs 183 lbs in the 72" and requires assembly, so clear the route in and plan for two people on the day.

Care
Clean with a slightly damp, soft cloth and wipe completely dry along the direction of the grain. Use a quality wood furniture cleaner for marks, and use mats under anything hot or wet — this is a wood finish, not stone. Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight: walnut lightens under UV, and a table half-covered by a runner for a year will show the line.
